A Spotluck Potluck to Honor Military Families

Spotluck & Nourish Now Team with Top Bethesda Restaurants to Help Fisher House

On Saturday, April 18, Spotluck and Nourish Now teamed up with the top restaurants in Bethesda to help feed military families at Fisher House in Montgomery County, MD. Nationwide, Fisher Houses provide military families housing close to loved ones during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. There are currently 64 Fisher Houses located on 23 military installations and 24 VA medical centers. Locally, Fisher House is located at historic Walter Reed National Military Medical Center at Bethesda.

The restaurants providing free food to the military families were:  Bethesda Barbecue CompanyCesco OsteriaHimalayan HeritageLebanese TavernaMussel BarRedwoodTommy Joe's, and Tyber Bierhaus. All are partner "Spots" in Spotluck’s Bethesda Row Hub. Spotluck is a red hot mobile app that allows users to discover local restaurants and save money in a fun way. With a simple spin of the wheel on the app, “Spotluckers” earn preferred pricing and forgo the hassle of figuring out where to eat next. Spotluck now has 10 hubs in DC, Virginia and Maryland.

This is the 2nd Spotluck Potluck. The previous effort was to aid The Children's Inn at NIH. The events are part of Spotluck’s core commitment to give back to the community.  Our partner in this event, Nourish Now works to alleviate food insecurity in Montgomery County, MD and beyond by reducing the waste of unused fresh food. Fisher House was selected because of its long history of helping recovering service members and their families. In 2014, Fisher House served more than 25,000 families. The average length of stay was 10 days, and up to 60 days for those dealing with combat casualties. Fisher House has saved families more than $30 million in lodging costs, food and transportation.

We are so grateful that our local Spots have joined us in giving back to the families of those who serve this country with honor.  Please take the time to support our Spots and to also thank a veteran!
